Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation
After a long, pandemic-stricken winter, many headed into summer 2021 with newfound excitement for the outdoors. It was the one place that could bring a bit of normalcy back into everyone’s life — and Take Me Fishing knew just the way to welcome beginners onto the water. Exponent helped the nonprofit launch a campaign built on celebrating the wellness benefits of the outdoors through diverse tactics, including media relations and influencer partnerships.
Wellness Benefits of Fishing
Following a year of pandemic shutdowns, people everywhere had been experiencing a wellness deficit. To promote the mental health benefits that come from fishing and boating, Take Me Fishing partnered with board-certified psychiatrist Dr. Jessica Clemons, MD,. a leader in mental health and wellness education. Dr. Jess spoke on behalf of Take Me Fishing during a satellite media tour as part of National Fishing and Boating Week, just in time to kick off summer activities across the country.
Crossover Activities with Fishing
Americans are more likely to try fishing when paired with another outdoor activity, like camping or kayaking. That’s why Take Me Fishing worked with nearly three dozen influencers of diverse backgrounds and experience levels to encourage everyone to get outside and include fishing and boating in their summer plans.
The organization hosted a fishing, boating and camping excursion, which brought a group of female influencers together to experience the outdoors. The influencers promoted Take Me Fishing’s Women Making Waves program, which aims to make the water a more inclusive space. Through Instagram Stories, Reels, in-feed posts and a Podcast episode, Take Me Fishing was able to reach new audiences across platforms.
